In so vielen Beiträgen lese ich in diesen Tagen, das Jahr 2020 war so schrecklich. 2021 wird alles besser. Ach so? Na, für mich wird sich nicht viel ändern. Mit den Beschränkungen des täglichen Lebens werde ich, werden wir, noch lange zu tun haben. Geimpft werde ich als Lehrerin spät, meine Schüler erst danach mit der großen Masse. Ich bin realistisch! Da mache ich mir nichts vor, es wird also erstmal Vieles so schwierig bleiben, wie es ist. Da heißt es also weiterhin, aus allem das Beste machen. So wie 2020 und all die anderen Jahre, oder? Ich versuche jedenfalls schon lange, immer das Beste aus allem zu machen…

Filztechnisch ziehe ich 2020 eine sehr positive Bilanz. Als ich letztens hier den Blog aktualisierte und die Liste der besuchten Workshops für dieses Jahr ergänzte, stellte ich fest, dass ich lange nicht mehr so viel Input bekommen hatte wie 2020. Und eine weitere Entwicklung ist die zunehmende internationale Ausrichtung meines Filzens, denn die meisten Workshops waren mit internationalen Dozentinnen und Teilnehmern auf Englisch. Das hatte ich mir so sehr gewünscht.
Und auch die Schwierigkeit, dass bisher viele Workshops zu Zeiten und an Orten stattfanden, die mit meinen Arbeitszeiten nicht vereinbar waren, bestand dieses Jahr weniger: entweder gab es eine freie Zeiteinteilung oder es wurde in kleine Häppchen eingeteilt. Durch die Online-Workshops entfiel auch zeit- und kostspieliges Reisen. Klar, natürlich ersetzt ein Zoom-Meeting keine persönliche Begegnung, aber es ist ein guter Kompromiss, wenn es anders nicht möglich ist.
Meine Zeit auf Social Media Kanälen hat sich damit ausgeweitet. Vor allem Instagram hat sich zu einer Plattform entwickelt, die auf einfache Weise ein Austauschformat und eine Inspirationsquelle ermöglicht. Mein Blog hat 2020 wieder mehr Zulauf bekommen als die letzten Jahre, vielleicht ist es ja doch ein Medium, was noch nicht ganz aufzugeben ist. Facebook ist hilfreich, wenn man sich in Gruppen zusammenschließt und dort über das Filzen fachsimpelt. Als ich gerade nachschaute, stellte ich fest, dass ich in 22 Filzgruppen Mitglied bin, von denen mehrere über 7000 Mitglieder aufweisen, andererseits gibt es auch ganz kleine Gruppen, die einen sehr privaten Charakter haben. Obwohl Social Media oft verteufelt wird, ist es für mich ein Segen, sowohl meine Ergebnisse zu posten – und damit eine Art Galerie zu erstellen – und kommentiert zu wissen als auch andere Ergebnisse zu sehen oder Fragen beantworten zu können oder „mal schnell“ um Rat zu fragen. Es steht außer Zweifel, dass ich gerade 2020 unzählige virtuelle Freundschaften gewonnen habe.
Schaut euch meinen Feed auf Instagram an und ihr seht gleichzeitig meine Filzentwicklung. Das ist wirklich nicht zu übersehen, gerade in den letzten Monaten…
So gibt es für Instagram ein Tool, um die 9 beliebtesten Posts, die die meisten Likes bekamen, zu ermitteln. Das habe ich auch für meinen Account getan, oben links sehr ihr die Anzahl der Likes, mit dem folgenden Ergebnis:

Als ich das sah, dachte ich: „Wow, was für ein tolles Ensemble!“ Und zwar auf vielerlei Weise. Es sind alle wichtigen Filzstationen auf meiner Filzreise 2020 vertreten:

– 2 Fingerpuppen mit The Lion King und Kraki, the octopus, die ich im Zuge des „Marathons“ von Yaroslava Troynich mit dem Hashtag #bibabowildmarathon angefertigt habe. Besonders stolz bin ich auf den Oktopus, denn er ist gänzlich mein eigenes Design.
– Die 4 Fische aus dem Kurs Fantasy Fish von Galina Titova, die ich nach ihrer Text- und Videoanleitung anfertigte, aber aus meinem Design bestehen und an Farbenfrohheit (gibt es das Wort?) nicht zu übertreffen sind.
– Der Splash und die Spiral sind beides Dinge, die ich mithilfe von Pam de Groot umsetzen konnte, und die schon so lange auf meiner Wunschliste standen.
– Oben mittig sehr ihr die Blue Flower of Life. Dieses wunderschöne, symmetrische Werk habe ich zusammen mit Maria Friese und anderen Filzerinnen live online mitgefilzt. Sie hat 2020 die „felt moments“ mit dem Titel „Heart Transformation“ entwickelt. Davon have ich sehr profitieren können.
– Das Rotkehlchen „Reliable Robin“ ist ebenfalls zusammen mit Yaroslava Troynich entstanden. Sie hat in loser Folge kostenlose Insta Lives auf Russisch gemacht, denen ich fast allen gefolgt bin. Was für eine Challenge, nur von dem auszugehen, was sie macht, weil ich die Sprache nicht verstehe. Dabei sind tolle Dinge entstanden, u.a. dieses Rotkehlchen.
Ich glaube, es hat auch so viele Likes bekommen, weil ich dazu einen kleinen Text schrieb, eine kleine Geschichte erzählte, von dem Rotkehlchen, was mich dieses Jahr auf dem Balkon immer wieder besucht und begleitet als treuer Freund, von denen es gerade in (Corona-)-Krisenzeiten nicht so viele gibt.
– Das letzte Bild ist auch so eins mit einer Geschichte. Auf das Werk und die Geschichte bin ich von allen neun Abbildung am stolzten (ich glaube, auch das Wort gibt es gar nicht, oder?). Ich entwickelte, konstruierte und designte es selbst, wendete Techniken an, die ich 2020 gelernt hatte und veröffentlichte es zum Felt United Day am 03. Oktober zum Thema „Confinement“. Es ist meine „Coronageschichte“, wie sie sich bis zu diesen Zeitpunkt abgespielt hatte, die ich erzählte.

Tja, ich denke, es ist sehr deutlich geworden, dass das Filzen und meine Kreativität mir sehr geholfen haben mit der Pandemiesituation umzugehen. Von denjenigen Filzerinnen, die schon Onlineangebote hatten oder schnell umswitchten und diese schnell entwarfen, habe ich sehr profitiert. Und ich hoffe, dass das 2021 weiterhin so möglich sein wird. Es gibt noch einige Kurse, die ich gern belegen möchte und Filzerinnen, die ich gerne kennenlernen möchte…

I read in so many posts these days that 2020 was so terrible. Everything will be better in 2021. Is that so? Well, not much will change for me. I, we, will have to deal with the restrictions of daily life for a long time to come. As a teacher, I will be vaccinated late, my pupils only afterwards with the great masses. I am realistic! I’m not kidding myself, so for the time being many things will remain as difficult as they are now. So it’s still a case of making the best of everything. Just like 2020 and all the other years, right? In any case, I’ve been trying to make the best of everything for a long time…

In terms of felting, 2020 is a very positive year for me. When I updated the blog here the other day and added to the list of workshops I had attended this year, I realised that I hadn’t had as much input as I did in 2020 for a long time. And another development is the increasing international orientation of my felting, because most of the workshops were in English with international instructors and participants. I had wanted that so much. 

And also the difficulty that previously many workshops took place at times and places that were not compatible with my working hours was less this year: either there was free time allocation or it was divided into small bites. The online workshops also eliminated the need for time-consuming and costly travel. Sure, of course, a Zoom meeting doesn’t replace a face-to-face meeting, but it’s a good compromise when it’s not possible otherwise. 

My time on social media channels has expanded with it. Instagram in particular has become a platform that allows for an easy sharing format and source of inspiration. My blog has become more popular again in 2020 than it has been the last few years, so maybe it’s a medium not to be abandoned quite yet. Facebook is helpful when you join groups and talk shop about felting there. When I just looked it up, I found that I am a member of 22 felting groups, several of which have over 7000 members, on the other hand there are also very small groups that have a very private character. Although social media is often demonised, for me it is a blessing both to be able to post my results – and thus create a kind of gallery – and to know that they are commented on, and to be able to see other results or to answer questions or ask for advice „quickly“. There is no doubt that I have made countless virtual friends just in 2020. 

Check out my feed on Instagram and you’ll see my felting progress at the same time. It’s really hard to miss, especially in the last few months…. 

So there is a tool for Instagram to determine the 9 most popular posts that got the most likes. I did the same for my account, in the top left corner you can see the number of likes, with the following result:

When I saw that, I thought, „Wow, what a great ensemble!“ And in many ways it is. All the major felting stops on my 2020 felting journey are represented:

– 2 finger puppets featuring The Lion King and Kraki, the octopus, which I made as part of Yaroslava Troynich’s „marathon“ with the hashtag #bibabowildmarathon. I am especially proud of the octopus because it is entirely my own design. 

– The 4 fishes from the course Fantasy Fish by Galina Titova, which I made according to her text and video instructions, but are made from my design and cannot be beaten for colourfulness (is there a word?). 

– The Splash and the Spiral are both things I was able to make with the help of Pam de Groot, and have been on my wish list for so long. 

– At the top centre you can see the Blue Flower of Life. I felted this beautiful, symmetrical piece together with Maria Friese and other felters live online. She developed the „felt moments“ with the title „Heart Transformation“ in 2020. I have benefited a lot from this. 

– The robin „Reliable Robin“ was also created together with Yaroslava Troynich. She has been doing free Insta Lives in Russian, which I have been following almost all of them. What a challenge, just going by what she does because I don’t understand the language. Great things came out of that, including this robin. 

I think it got so many likes because I wrote a little text about it, told a little story about the robin that has been visiting me on the balcony this year and accompanying me as a loyal friend, of which there are not so many, especially in times of (Corona) crisis. 

– The last picture is also one with a story. Of all the nine pictures, I am most proud of the work and the story (I don’t think there is a word for that either, is there?). I developed, constructed and designed it myself, used techniques I learned in 2020 and published it for Felt United Day on 03 October on the theme „Confinement“. It is my „corona story“ as it had happened up to that point that I told. 

Well, I think it became very clear that felting and my creativity helped me a lot to deal with the pandemic situation. I benefited a lot from those felters who already had online offers or quickly switched and designed them. And I hope that this will continue in 2021. There are still some courses I would like to take and felters I would like to meet….
